Next to go in are the chines , they are bolted into the transom frame
with oak knees shown on the left . The two photos on the right show
the intermediate ribs temporarily screwed to the sawn frames . These
wide ribs were steamed for about an hour until they were quite
flexible . They were then temporarily screwed to the sawn frames so
that they would cool over a few days and retain the curve . After they
have taken the set they will be fitted into the framework between the
sawn frames .

On the left the intermediate ribs have been fitted into the spaces
between the frames . On the right the first layer of diagonal planking
is being applied . The original was 1/4" mahogany plywood . Here it is
being replace with vertical grain western red cedar which in my
opinion is superior to plywood in decay resistance and is also a bit
lighter. The planking here was re-sawn from thick boards to
minimize waste . When this layer is completed a second diagonal layer
( going the opposite direction ) will be bedded in 3M 5200 on top of
this one . The final layer will be mahogany also bedded in 3M 5200 and
screwed with stainless steel screws into the frames .
