New ribs are milled out of green white oak .The ribs are steamed
for about half an hour and bent into place . Copper nails are driven
through the planking and the rib while the rib is still hot and
clenched over with a brass " bucking iron " I use brass because steel
would blacken the wet oak .

The
front half of the hull is cleaned up in preparation for the rest of
the ribs .

With the ribs replaced there is now something to fasten the sheer
plank to .

This is the back end of the side deck . It was sawn off to get a cross
section and thickness measurements for the new strips .
