The first stage in the setup is to build a strong back . The strong back is leveled in both directions and the frames are set up on their stations from the plan .

The stem , keel and stringers tie everything together. The stem is made of two pieces joined with an interlocking joint.

 

 The chine and stem both have a step towards the bow to accommodate the difference in the thickness of the bottom and side planking .
