The first layer of planking is 1/4" thick mahogany laid on the
diagonal .

The inner skin is covered by a layer of 1/2" vertical grain cedar .
The cedar is bedded in a polyurethane sealer that forms a water proof
membrane between the two layers . The planks are beveled on the edges
so that they are tight at the bottom and form a caulking seam at the
top . The caulking seam is filled with a flexible polyurethane and
serves as an expansion joint .

The first side plank is installed before the last round of bottom
planking . At the front the first side plank is left a little
thicker to form a small spray deflecting lip were it meets the bottom
. The planking is then faired off with a sharp hand plane before
sanding .
