Planking the bottom 1 : A batten is used to mark lines on the inner skin . These lines divide the surface into roughly equal parts and determine where the plank lines will be in the outer planking . The outer planking is 1/2" thick and is bonded to the inner skin with 3M 5200 and is fastened to the framework with # 10 X 2" bronze woodscrews . Since there is nowhere to clamp the planks while they are being fastened I fastened a few temporary metal straps on the keel .Sticks where held by these straps and clamped at the chines to hold the planks in place as they were installed . |
