One of the more challenging aspects of a new boat is the hardware . The hardware finishes the boat and hardware suitable for a boat like this is not something that is readily available from most chandleries . This is a computer generated model of a cleat that will be used .
the computer model was cut out of a block of mahogany on the shopbot router . Since the low tech version of the cnc router only cuts from the top down , the pattern was cut in two halves that will be glued together . The pattern is used at the foundry to create a hollow impression in sand , which is later filled with molten bronze .

In some cases I use parts from my collection of original patterns ,as is the case with the steering wheel hub . The hub is polished and plated before fabricating the black walnut wheel .
