While the hull is being readied for stain the entire interior has been dismantled for stain and ten to twelve coats of varnish on every part , hand sanded between coats with # 400 waterproof sandpaper . The parts are often more work than the boat itself . I haven't counted how many parts , but so far I've used over forty quarts of varnish

    

 

On most modern boats the hydraulic steering pump gets bolted onto the dash , and the steering wheel goes directly on the pump . This might look O.K. on a Tupperware boat , but not here . I had a welder make up this bracket to hide the pump behind the bulkhead and use a more traditional looking  steering column .
