

After fairing the side frames and planing the correct bevels the location of the
side battens were laid out . I used a skill saw set to the correct depth to
rough out the notches . I read an article in wooden boat magazine about how some
guy made a depth stop on the back of his hand saw for doing a job like this .
With over three hundred notches to be cut here I much prefer a skill saw and the
depth adjustment is already built in .
After a couple of thousand passes with the skill saw the notches were fine tuned
with a sharp chisel .
Since the side battens determine the location of the plank seams the notches
were fine tuned with a batten as they were faired .
